Ruby Programming Language

Someone asked how they could learn the Ruby Programming Language. It's always best to learn through practical experience and, fortunately, that is easy because Ruby is free. Not only is it financially free but since it is distributed under the GPL license it also provides you the freedom to examine its source code and, if you desire, modify it in accordance with the GPL license.

Once you have installed a copy of the Ruby language, http://www.ruby-lang.org provides information how to do so, you will need to learn how to use it. There are many online resources, however, if you prefer a hard copy Amazon has several books on Ruby available. One of the best is "Programming Ruby", now available in its even better second edition. Once you learn Ruby I am sure that you will want to try Ruby on Rails to see what all the fuss is about, the best book is "Agile Web Development with Rails"

Have fun learning Ruby, remember that fun was one of the foundations of the Ruby language, if you have any comments please let me know and if you have any other questions which you'd like me to answer for free please send them to Ben Dash at ben.dash@gmail.com
